The Legend of the White Beans

Once upon a time there was a very good man, but he felt unhappy. One day he thought his unhappiness would end if he sold his soul.

To this end he concentrated and summoned Kitzin, who quickly came to meet him.

  • What are you calling on me for? - Kitzin asked.

“I want to sell my soul, and I thought you'd be interested in having it, “replied the man.

Of course Kitzin was interested in keeping with the soul of a good man and said: - What do you want in exchange for your soul?

  • I'll make seven orders for you. One for every day of the week.

“Granted, “replied Kitzin- “ask me what you want.

The first day, the man asked for money. Immediately his pockets were filled with gold coins.

The second, he asked for good health and soon felt strong as an ox.

The third day demanded food. And his table was covered with the most exquisite delicacies he tasted to his fill.

On the fourth day, she asked for women. He was instantly surrounded by the most beautiful women he had ever seen.

On the fifth day he asked for power. And he lived as the most important of the chiefs.

On the sixth day he wished to travel to distant lands and in an instant he was transferred to the most exotic and picturesque places in the world.

Kitzin said, “Think well what you want, for you have only one desire to fulfill and your soul will be mine.

The man replied: I just want you to wash those black beans until they turn white.

Kitzin laughed with laughter because that order was very easy. Kitzin started washing the beans, but there was no way they could change color.

Soon Kitzin realized that he had fallen into a trap and had lost a soul.

Then Kitzn said: This should not happen again. From now on there will be black, white, yellow and red beans.

The Canancol

The Canancol is a doll that is in charge of the care of the plantations.

Farmers, in order to prevent them from stealing the fruit of their harvest, turn to a sorcerer named men, who does the following practice:

First the owner of the field builds a doll. The size of the doll must be proportionate to the extent of the field.

Above the field two diagonals are marked to place the center. Ali puts the doll, the sorcerer coats it with the wax of nine hives. Once finished, two beans are placed per eyes.

Corns instead of teeth and white beans instead of nails. The sorcerer then begins to place his organs while summoning the four winds to be compassionate, for the fruit of that field is the only thing that the peasant possesses to feed his children.

When the sorcerer finishes making the doll, he makes an invocation while placing herbs on it that only the sorcerer knows.

He then presents it to the sun god and offers it to the rain god. Burn herbs and that sacred fire is kept for an hour.

Then the sorcerer drunks the assistants with a very powerful brandy so that they can not warn the coming of the gods to earth, for only he can see them.

The ceremony takes place at noon. When the sun is at its highest point, the sorcerer cuts a cut on the peasant's little finger, from which he squeezes nine drops of blood that he drops into a hole left expressly in the hand of the doll.

Then the man says to the doll: - From this moment your life begins. This is your master whom you must obey, otherwise the gods will punish you. This field is yours and you must protect it from intruders and thieves. This will be your weapon - and the sorcerer places a stone in the hand of the doll.

Legend has it that the Canancol remains covered until the fruits come out. There it is discovered to take care of the harvest. This belief is so firm that no one dares to enter a farm where there is a Canancol for fear of receiving deadly stones.
